Their satin-finished metal surfaces, MICROM markings, and “West-Germany” identification give the set its unmistakable industrial character. An appealing addition to a precision-tool collection, an instrument maker’s workshop, or a display of historic engineering equipment.

Two Lengths, One Distinctive Set

The 160 mm (approximately 6.30 in) straightedge fits inside the accompanying wooden case. The longer 220 mm (approximately 8.66 in) instrument offers a greater inspection span and will be individually protected outside the case for shipping.

The pairing brings together a compact instrument for smaller surfaces and a longer example for larger components, making this an interesting set for collectors and enthusiasts of traditional precision tools.

The Light-Gap Method

A knife-edge straightedge is not an ordinary ruler. Its fine inspection edge is placed against a surface and viewed against a light source. A visible gap can reveal deviations from flatness.

This traditional inspection principle belongs to the world of precision mechanics, instrument making, and restoration. It recalls a workshop tradition in which careful observation and finely finished tools played a central role. The measurement accuracy of these particular instruments has not been established by a calibration certificate.

West German Industrial Heritage

The “West-Germany” marking places these instruments in the historical context of West German instrument manufacturing. Together with the labeled wooden case, they form a characterful combination of technical purpose and collectible appeal.

Displayed in a workshop, collector’s cabinet, or office, the set offers a tangible connection to the history of precision engineering.

Condition

According to the seller, the set is in like-new condition, with sharp inspection edges and no damage, burrs, or corrosion.
