ContinentalVintage.com proudly presents a distinctive object from the early days of cinema: an antique hand-cranked home cinema projector bearing a VEDES nameplate, offered with a collection of 19 glass slides. An evocative time capsule of early European precision mechanics and visual culture, bringing together engineering and illustrated storytelling. VEDES Mechanical Kinematograph and Magic Lantern This set combines a mechanical kinematograph with a magic lantern projector for glass slides. Its hand crank, exposed gears, cylindrical housing and riveted VEDES nameplate on the base make it an intriguing collectible for enthusiasts of early projection technology and historic cinema. According to the seller, the projector was made in Nuremberg, Germany's historic toy-making center, and originally distributed through the German buying association VEDES. The estimated production period is circa 1910–1920, spanning the late Belle Époque and early interwar years. This historical attribution and dating have not been independently verified. The seller identifies a cast-iron base, a brass VEDES nameplate and a Maltese cross mechanism. The exposed mechanical components give the projector its distinctive technical character; the precise mechanism and material specifications have not been independently established. Collection of 19 Glass Slides According to the seller, the accompanying collection consists of 19 hand-colored and lithographic glass slides. These feature sequential scenes including early slapstick, historical narratives and scenes described by the seller as Eastern-themed: illustrated stories recalling early comic strips and the world of animation and projection. The projector and glass slides are offered together as one collection, preserving their association. An atmospheric display piece for a historic cinema collection, a study or a cabinet of antique technology. Operation and Condition The seller describes the set as very complete, hand-operated and fully functioning. The projector shows visible age and wear, including losses to the black finish and localized oxidation. Please note: one of the 19 glass slides has glass damage, as reported by the seller in reference to the photograph showing a slide in the holder. This damage forms part of the offered condition. Please examine the photographs carefully for visible details and the condition of the object.
