€500,00 EUR
Zenith Le Locle Téléphonemètre – Swiss Watchmaking and Early Telephony A characterful mechanical Zenith instrument featuring a white dial, the red ZENITH name, and the inscriptions “Fabriques des Montres Zenith” and “Le Locle Suisse.” Identified by the seller as a Téléphonemètre, a mechanical telephone conversation timer. The seller estimates its date to approximately 1910–1920; this dating has not been independently confirmed. Bringing together Swiss watchmaking and the history of early telecommunications, this piece would make an appealing addition to a collection of Zenith instruments, historical timers, or telephone memorabilia. Its distinctive dial and decorated metal back also make it an attractive display piece for a desk or cabinet. Dial, Patent Markings and Serial Number The white dial combines large black numerals with red and black scale markings. A small subsidiary dial at the top has a scale extending to 48. The precise unit represented by this scale has not been established. Maker inscription: ZENITH – Fabriques des Montres Zenith, Le Locle Suisse. Patent markings as supplied by the seller: • PAT. 12766/08 • S.G.D.G. 373533 • D.R.P. 189161 Serial number supplied by the seller: № 1085148, engraved into the metal back. The back features a decorative perlage pattern of overlapping circular marks, a distinctive detail associated with watchmaking finishes. Case and Controls The metal case has a red finish and a silver-tone bezel surrounding the dial. A large operating lever has a reddish-brown handle, described by the seller as wood. A small silver-tone button is positioned on the side. The seller identifies these controls as the start/stop lever and reset button. Condition and Operation The seller has checked the operation and reports that the instrument is working. The photographs show age-related wear, including wear and discoloration to the metal bezel and red case finish, surface scratches and marks on the back, and small spots on the dial. The dial markings and inscriptions remain recognizable. Please examine all four photographs carefully as part of the description. No guarantee of calibrated timing accuracy is provided.
