A distinctive Swiss mechanical measuring instrument, this Correx gram force gauge by Haag-Streit AG, Liebefeld-Bern, combines a dial graduated up to 500 grams with a steel measuring probe and a wooden sliding-lid case. Rather than an ordinary household scale, it is a mechanical force gauge with striking technical details.
The deep, dark crinkle-finish housing contrasts beautifully with the polished metal dial rim and light-colored dial. The dial bears the markings CORREX, HAAG-STREIT BERN, GRAMM and SWISS MADE, along with the operating instruction RELEASE SLOWLY / ZEIGER NICHT SCHNELLEN LASSEN.
The underside carries a red APR. 1961 marking and a post horn emblem with a number identified by the seller as inspection number 91. The date stamp is an intriguing historical detail; its precise meaning has not been independently established.
The wooden sliding-lid case bears the number 859 813 106-5 and the markings HAAG-STREIT AG., LIEBEFELD-BERN, CORREX, 500 g and MADE IN SWITZERLAND. The seller identifies it as the original matching case.
The seller describes the set as complete and in particularly fine condition. Its operation has been tested, and the mechanism moves smoothly. Visible signs of age and use remain, especially on the wooden case. No calibration or guaranteed measuring accuracy is claimed.
An appealing collectible for enthusiasts of historical measuring instruments and Swiss engineering.
