A distinctive piece of precision engineering history, this VEB Carl Zeiss Jena Zahnweiten-Fühlhebelschraublehre combines disc-shaped measuring faces with a built-in tolerance indicator. Unlike a conventional micrometer, this instrument was designed to measure gear tooth span. Its broad measuring discs, silver-colored micrometer thimble and textured charcoal-black frame give it a striking technical appearance. An appealing collectible for enthusiasts of historical metrology, watchmaking tools and precision mechanics. DESIGN AND MARKINGS Brand: VEB Carl Zeiss Jena. Model designation: Zahnweiten-Fühlhebelschraublehre, also known as an indicating disc micrometer. Marked measuring range: 20–45 mm. Built-in fine indicator with tolerance markers. Number marking: 00307. Carl Zeiss Jena logo on the indicator scale. Handwritten number 24 on the instrument and case. According to the seller, the instrument dates from the East German period, probably around the 1960s. The exact production date has not been independently verified. WOODEN CASE AND INSTRUCTIONS Supplied in its accompanying black-painted wooden case with two metal clasps and a fitted interior. The seller identifies this as the original case. Inside the lid is a German-language instruction sheet with a technical drawing and adjustment instructions, including “Einstellen auf Null oder Prüfmaß” and “Einstellen der Toleranzanzeiger.” CONDITION Vintage, pre-owned condition with visible signs of age and use. The wooden case shows scratches and wear to its black finish, and the instrument also has visible signs of use.
