Vintage pocket microscope with rotating end and hinged viewing plate

Vintage pocket microscope with rotating end and hinged viewing plate

€250,00 EUR
Slender vintage optical instrument described by the seller as a precision pocket microscope. Its dark cylindrical body has a rotating end that extends the instrument according to the seller, screw details and a small hinged metal plate with a circular opening. A characterful collector’s piece for enthusiasts of historical optics and mechanical instruments. DESIGN AND DETAILS • According to the seller, turning the end makes the instrument longer. It is not offered as a sliding model. • The previously suggested model name, Vario-Focus Pocket Field Microscope, has not been independently verified. • Dark brown to black finish with visible signs of use. • A row of screw details along the body and fastening screws near the end fitting. • Hinged metal viewing plate with a circular opening at the optical end. • Dimensions supplied by the seller: approximately 13 × 1.5 × 1.5 cm. • Weight supplied by the seller: 33 grams. • Brand, manufacturer and magnification have not been established. DATING AND POSSIBLE APPLICATION Estimated date according to the seller: circa 1920–1940, the interwar period. The seller describes the body as brass with a dark patinated or chemically darkened finish. The date, material and finish have not been independently verified. The seller suggests a possible military or industrial inspection application and interprets the end fitting as a sighting aid or part of a prism arrangement. An internal prism, an exact 90-degree viewing angle, factory calibration and use for sighting equipment, cartography or barrel inspection have not been established. The instrument is therefore not offered as a proven military instrument or a guaranteed prism model. CONDITION AND OPERATION Tested by the seller, who reports a clear lens. Operation has not been independently verified. The photographs show wear, scratches and localized discoloration on the body and metal parts. Two close-up photographs are out of focus and do not allow a reliable assessment of lens quality. Please examine all six photographs for the visible condition of this example. Tracked shipping is charged separately.
